About twenty years ago, I began working in the medical equipment business by
selling lift chairs. I worked from my garage at home and traveled throughout
Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and West Virginia (see Pride
Mobility). I soon learned two things: It was rewarding to sell a
product that brought so much happiness to people, and there was a real need to
get more types of medical equipment out to people, especially the homebound
and the isolated.
When I realized the need, I soon
began selling scooters, which gave people the mobility to travel, shop, go to
flea markets, attend church, and go wherever they wanted. I looked for the
best scooter I could find and started selling the Amigo,
which was the first scooter made. In time, the scooter business took off, and
I began selling and servicing other scooters as well.
It was not long before I began
getting so many requests for lifts to put the scooters into vehicles that I
contacted Bruno, a company which
specializes in lifts and other independent living aids to see about carrying
their product lines. I found that Bruno makes excellent lifts, as well as
scooters, which enhanced our line of products. Later, I added the Harmar
Mobility line of lifts and the Bruno stair lifts.
Next, I added two lines of aluminum
ramps so people could easily drive their scooters in and out of their homes or
vehicles. PVI and Alumi
Ramp are two of the best ramps on the market.
It was requests for hospital beds,
bath accessories, and wheel chairs that motivated me to carry products by Invacare.
With the addition of Sunrise
Medical Products, I then had a complete line of home medical products.
When someone called with a request
for a lift that could be mounted above a bed to give assistance in lifting a
disabled person from the bed to the bath and back, I found just the right
lifts being manufactured by BHM
Medical and added these products to my growing repertoire.
Requests for porch lifts, or
platform lifts, and elevators found me searching for the best products
available; I am proud to say we now carry the National
Wheel-O-Vator lifts and elevators.
My newest line of products is
manufactured by Vantage Mobility,
including the conversion van, which can be specially designed to provide
driver or passenger access according to individual need.
Over the past twenty years, the
business that began in my garage has expanded to four locations throughout
Kentucky. Our main office in Shepherdsville has a sales office, installation
area, service area, and 9000 sq. ft. warehouse space. We also have offices in
Owensboro, and Lexington, which helps us to serve Kentucky and
Southern Indiana. This growth has occurred
because we have striven to provide customers with the best products and
service available. To help with the growth, my sons, Seth and Josh, joined the
company in 2005.
